Mariposa School of Skating is located in a beautiful city of Barrie, about an hour north of Ontario's Capital city of Toronto.
Mariposa was established by Doug Leigh in 1973 in Orillia, it moved to it's current location in Barrie in 1988. It is a well known skating school with an exceptional history of Canadian Skating Excellence.
World famous Coach to the Olympic Stars like Brian Orser, Elvis Stoyko, Jennifer Robinson and Jeff Buttle, Doug continues to command the international attention via his new and promising students. Mariposa Winter Club offers various programs throughout the year, including an intense Summer School Program that usually starts the very last week of June and runs through till the middle of August. Over the years, thousands of talented young skaters from all over the world trained on the ice at the Allandale Recreations Center and at the Barrie Molson Center They move here from as far as Australia and Spain. They come to Barrie to learn, to practice with few of the bet Canadian Figure Skating Legends. Mariposa truly is an incredible place.
If you are planning a permanent move to Barrie, to enroll your young skater at the Mariposa Skating School, and you would like to keep them up to date with their studies; there is a high school, right next door to the Mariposa facilities at the Allendale Recreational Center.
Innisdale Secondary School is quite accommodating and willing to work with skaters training schedules at Mariposa. Their Guidance Department will be able to provide a list of things you need before you make the move. Mariposa Skating School students choose to rent apartments in the close proximity to the arena, most of those are within walking distance to the Allandale Recreation Center. Are you planning a trip to Barrie? Is your skater relocating and you want to figure things out before you get there? First you can find a place to stay. There are 23 hotels in Barrie, few within relatively close proximity to the arena.
Then, the next step would be to search for accommodations for your skater, figure out where most important stores are, where the best restaurants area and how to get to the lake. Yes there is a beautiful lake here, perfect for running, relaxing on a beach and even ice fishing.

If you are planning a visit to Canada, please make sure to purchase travel and medical insurance and check with your country's Figure Skating Association or Federation, to make sure your skater is cover for his or her's medical emergencies. Healthcare in Canada is costly, short stay at a hospital can amount to thousands of dollars if you are not covered through insurance. Make sure you have health insurance to pay your medical expenses before you leave for Canada.
